LAB Apparel!

June 19, 2008 by Nathen McVittie

Hey guys..

We have a new endeavour. LAB Apparel.
It’s not going to be another run-of-the-mill “clothing company”.
This is going to try and mean something. Clothes you respect.

It may take a little while to fully roll out, but please bear with it.
Designs are on the way. T-Shirts to start. Only printed on American Apparel.bubbles

We want this to be different. Not the same as everyone else. No cute animals with a speech bubble saying “LAB!” or anything. At least I hope not.

We are very much planning it, so it shall be interesting to see where it goes.
Let’s just say that eventually we want to source out and create our own garments from the ground up.

Check out the MySpace below and send a friend request. Super lo-fi and cryptic right now, but a full layout and website to come with more info and designs.

I can’t stress enough how much I want this to mean something and not be another throw away project/little kids clothing company. I love merch, t-shirts, designs, great clothes etc.. and I want to contribute and try to supply with people with clothes they will keep coming back to.

I hope all is well, and sorry for my absense.. between tour, arguments and being ill.. I’ve literally been resting and just marinating.

Here is the address:

Live the dream,

Nathen x

Well, we came here to make you dance tonight…

June 18, 2008 by labrecords

…I don’t care if we’re a guilty pleasure for you.

Tour begins in Southampton this Friday and we have a show every night until 30 June. Everything you need to know is throughout this blog – except perhaps that we have added a show at the iBar in Bournemouth on Saturday 28th June. Doors 7pm (curfew 10pm), 18+ and free! Yes.

It’s been a hectic week: between attempting to sort the aforementioned Bournemouth show to team Auteur having some terrible van news. Long story short, the LABPunto is coming to the party!

Please come out to a date and say hello – and throw some moves!

Mark

The label tour is one week away!

June 13, 2008 by labrecords

Ooh, I can almost taste it. Seven days from now the first (annual?) LAB Records Summer Tour begins in earnest at Southampton Joiners. A little nervous (I have no sat nav still…) but mostly very excited!

So what can you expect if you come out to a show? Well along with our three touring bands, all dates have at least one local support – some opening, some headlining. Some of the talent on show includes Me Vs Hero (Manchester, Blackpool), Lower Than Atlantis (Neath), Paige (Brighton) and The Night Life Crisis (Blackpool). You can check out full details of local support HERE.

Also, we’ve tried to keep tickets as cheap as possible, so all shows should be just £4-6 on the door. You can however still pick up advance tickets for:

- 20 June: SOUTHAMPTON Joiners (14+) – Click Here
- 23 June: MANCHESTER, Music Box (14+) – Click Here
- 25 June: GLASGOW, Rockers (16+) – Click Here
- 30 June: BRIGHTON, Freebutt (16+) – Click Here

We’ll also have a ton of shiny merch to sell – from CD’s and t-shirts to A3 posters. We’re keeping everything really cheap on this tour so please bring some loose change and pick something up.

Are you on Facebook? We have some event pages on there – feel free to invite yourself and friends HERE.

Finally, here are some local show posters for you to enjoy…

Thanks for making it this far – hope to see you on the road.

Heads down in the back of the van

June 9, 2008 by labrecords

A short but sweet tour update, then! I am now all moved out of my Manchester place and back in Blackpool – and if that’s not enough to get someone excited to hit the road, I don’t know what is.

The label tour kicks off on 20 June in Southampton, and goes on to another 9 towns and cities. Sadly, the High Wycombe date on 28 June has been cancelled at the promoters end. Poor form! However, we are looking at other options and crossing our fingers that something will come up.

The full dates then – I really would love it if you could come out and say hello:

The LAB Records Summer Tour 2008
Featuring MiMi Soya, The Auteur and Lost On Campus

Friday 20 June – SOUTHAMPTON, Joiners (14+)
Saturday 21 June – WITHAM, Spring Lodge Centre (14+)
Sunday 22 June – LONDON, The Cross Kings (14+)
Monday 23 June – MANCHESTER, Music Box (14+)

Tuesday 24 June – YORK, Speakeasy Bar (18+)
Wednesday 25 June – GLASGOW, Rockers (16+)

Thursday 26 June – BLACKPOOL, Riffs (18+)
Friday 27 June – NEATH, The Windsor (14+)
Saturday 28 June – BOOK THIS!
Sunday 29 June – POOLE, Mr C’s (16+)

Monday 30 June – BRIGHTON, Freebutt (16+)

Details of support and advanced tickets can be found here.

Have a good day one and all! Mark xo

Happy release day!

June 2, 2008 by labrecords

It’s bloomin’ well release day here at LAB Recs HQ and there’s so much going on, we need to present it in numbered form. Here goes!

1. Yes! The MiMi Soya EP is now available in stores (such as online at HMV, Play.com and Amazon) and on iTunes. If you weren’t one of the lucky 100+ people who pre-ordered the thing, pick it up now – it’d mean a lot to so many people. Full details of absolutely everyone stocking the CD are here.

2. It may be now available in all of the aforementioned big name stores, but all you bargain hunters can still pick it up direct from us for just £3.50 plus postage. We ship within 24 hours, too! Head over to our Online Store.

3. Our website has something of a new look over at www.labrecords.co.uk – to celebrate the fact that there is now less than three weeks until the start of the first ever LAB Records Summer Tour. Full details and advance ticket links are available here.

4. Thanks so much to everyone who has ordered a CD or t-shirt from us recently – it means a lot. Have a great day everyone!

Remember us, Blackpool?

May 30, 2008 by labrecords

So, after more than six months away, we’re coming back to Riffs in Blackpool for a special homecoming show on Thursday 26 June 2008, from 7.30pm!

It’s a middle date on The LAB Records Summer Tour, which runs from 20-30 June.

The five-band bill consists of the three touring bands – MiMi Soya, The Auteur and Lost On Campus as well as two great friends of ours, Me Vs Hero and The Night Life Crisis.

All in all it promises to be a great night with potential for partying afterwards – so stick it in your diary and let’s get Blackpool back on the map. Hurrah.

Visit the promotions page at LifesABeatch.co.uk for more specific Blackpool info, or labrecords.co.uk for full tour details.

One week to go!

May 26, 2008 by labrecords

Our next release hits shops in one week everyone! Exciting times. It is of course the brand new EP from Brighton’s (nay, the UK’s) best looking band, MiMi Soya: The Four Penny Knee Trembler.

You can pick it up right now from us – and from next Monday (2 June) you’ll be able to get it in major stores (check out HMV, Amazon and Play.com), on iTunes and in a select few indies such as Piccadilly Records, Oldham Street, Manchester.

Oh – and they’ll be on the road all Summer – check out MySpace.com/mimisoya for dates.

Hey guys, Nathen here..
Comin’ atcha from a spare room in Bristol, mid-way through the Fightstar/Brigade/We Are The Ocean tour.

Basically instead of concentrating at the merch desk, or going to bed at a reasonable hour (it’s nearing 5am!) I decided to tweak the LAB Recs official site, and just generally make it a little bit more shiny.

So check it out and let me know what you think! (Also get in touch if the links on the image don’t work!)

Peace and loooove,

Nathen xo

It’s that time of year again!

May 20, 2008 by labrecords

And so mid-May has arrived, exams are done and I can stop thinking so much about Freud and Lacon and start thinking about the Summer months and the releases and exciting live shows they will inevitably bring.

While we are currently speaking with a couple of potential ’signings’, here is an update on everyone and everything else we are involved with…

The LAB Records Summer Tour is now exactly one month away (beginning on 20 June in Southampton) and advance tickets are now available for some dates. Click here for full details of dates, venues, local supports and tickets.

We also have a very limited number of beautiful A3 tour poster prints for sale. All come in a protective poster tube but there really aren’t many – so work fast! Click here to order yours.

The tour also includes a special homecoming showcase back where we used to put on shows ‘back in the day’ at Riffs, near South Pier, Blackpool. That one is happening on Thursday 26 June and features the three touring bands as well as our good friends Me Vs Hero and The Night Life Crisis. Full details here.

LAB005, MiMi Soya’s The Four Penny Knee Trembler EP, arrived at LAB HQ last week and all orders to date have now been shipped. It hits stores and iTunes on Monday 2 June and you can pre-order from the links below. Orders direct from us will be shipped within 24 hours and come with two bonus tracks!

Pre-order: LAB Records Store | HMV | Play.com | Zavvi

Lost On Campus is back in the studio this week with producer James Sanford, recording a new song called But A Bridge for a split single with Scott McEwan. This is provisionally pencilled in for an August release on LAB, and the release will take the form of a limited 7 inch vinyl/CD pack as well as, of course, being available through all digital stores.

Vinyl is something myself and Rob have discussed through many a late night car journey and I think it’d be fair to say this song is the best he’s ever written, so I’m very excited to see how it turns out. You can of course still pick up his excellent six-track EP from our Online Store.

My Actions Your Exit are currently writing new material and preparing to record their debut LAB release. The guys are hoping to hit the studio in September, but they have some shows booked for long before then, so be sure to have a look if they’re coming near you.

Ever the gentlemen, Edward Lewis is currently preparing to record his next free download release. He will also be hitting the studio with James Sanford, and this time taking a full band (trumpet, piano and drums as well as acoustic guitar) in with him.

That’s everything for now – thanks so much for taking the time to read. Please stay tuned for what I’m hoping will be an exciting few months.

Keep buying music! Much love,

Mark
